Insurance for foreign bikes in India

Hi!,
I have been trying to get info on getting a third party insurance for India but browsing from previous threads I dont seem to get much ( or I must have miss out?, sorry for asking)
The insurance company such as TATA AIG, new Assurance India etc do not as far as I know cover foreign vehicles.
Anyone there can help me out?

Third-party insurance for India

Hei Amzah,
In '09 I bought an insurance policy for "liability" from National Insurance Company Ltd, the subtitle is "A Govt. of INDIA undertaking" The cost was Rp 753 for one year.
Wether this policy actually could keep you out of jail, or even compensate damage you have caused - I am very glad I never found out.
Driving in India is notorious, you know all about that I assume. It's like giving vehicles to kindergarden kids. The biggest and most expensive have priority, and overloading, bad maintainance and brainless driving make manouvering and braking a little chancy.
The worst example I see was drivers lining up in both lanes on both sides of a railway crossing - several times they actually crashed into eachother when the barrier was raised. Unbelievable.
One more thing, I was warned by both Indians and ex-pats to be aware of the "this accident would never have happened if you hadn't been here - so it must be your fault" and mob justice. There I have no advice, just watch your back.

Safe travels

"The Ferengi is always at fault and to be held accountable for whatever happens" can occur in many parts of the world.
I have come across that mentality in so-called 3rd world countries and in the deepest depths of the shire counties of the UK ("he is from out of town - meaning from an adjacent county, town or village - so he is definitely at fault").

Payment of blood money is often the solution.

Mob rule is a phenomena that can occur just about anywhere: it seems to be part of the human condition.

Think of it like standing in a swam of wasps and trying not to get stung.

Hi! Guys,
Thank you for the strong advice. It is very true, I had that bad experience in Laos where an idiot ran into me and he was hospitalised while I was held up to my neck! Though eventually I managed to sort out thing but not without payment and pull-string talk. Phew!
For benefit of doubt I still need to buy some sort of insurance before I enter India. Still searching for one.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
