Insurance from CANADA-ARGENTINA help!
Has anyone booked medical and motorbike insurance travelling from Canada, right down to Argentina?
Getting a head ache from looking - Recommendations would be greatly received!!
World nomads cover almost seems too cheap. We had a look at an American company that wanted 300£ for 30 days in US and Canada just for motorbike insurance, but Nomads are £500-£700 for whole trip??
Thanks in advance!!

I presume you are a Brit so there should be some choice of medical insurance providers, tell them how you plan to travel and get a reply in writing that you are covered, note things some policies have such as the requirement you have a return ticket.
There are a few threads about World Nomads on here and the cover you get depends on your nationality and they might be evacuation only I am not sure about that, I have used the Post Office in the past which has covered motorcycle travel but policies can change from one year to the next.
These people can arrange both travel and motorcycle insurance, the latter I think only for Canada and the US, all other have to be bought at the border upon entry, you can buy Mexican bike insurance on-line in advance as well as sorting out the TIP for Mexico.

Insurances
J....... Could you post a link to the World Nomads insurance that covers Canada to Argentina - Is that motorcycle insurance or medical insurance.
Some policies only cover medical related to an accident, others have no personal medical coverage for the rider at all, and cover with limits those you injure in an accident.
I suggest you have a good medical policy that covers you while riding YOUR motorcycle - some policies only cover up to 250cc and smaller and some policies do not cover you while riding a motorcycle. And, that you have comprehensive (if the bike is worth more than you can afford to replace) and detailed 3rd party coverage for the bike.
Insurance agents/companies are really, really tricky. Please post here exact link with costs and coverage and I will be pleased to take a look and advise.
Nicaragua might not honor foreign vehicle insurances for entry and you may have to purchase the National Insurance Policy - that is inexpensive, but might be mandatory. This was the case some years ago - it might not be the case today. Also, make sure you have a Spanish translation of coverage.

No point looking at World nomads unless you first declare your country of permanent residence and then go right through the Product Disclosure Statement - especially applies for bikers because the world nomad coverage is actually provided by different underwriters for that country and they are all different. For instance, Australians can get cover for bike touring but Brits and Americans can't.
As for cover for your bike - might be able to get comprehensive cover for north america because Progressive for instance has a policy for US-registered RVs but of course bikes are a different thing entirely. Other than that each country in the americas has some sort of requirement for having mandatory third party liability insurance. For example, Mexico has pretty strict be-insured-or-risk-prison-stay-regardless-of-whether-it-si-your-fault laws and you can get it at the border or better still, on-line. Many countries it is available at the border from private companies eg Colombia. One country at least - Ecuador has some sort of government-sponsored system tied in with a valid TVIP and entry visa that is free and hopefully automatic. Others don't always have it available at all borders and of course the police are well away of rich pickings - eg Peru. Others are very difficult to find insurance anywhere - Argentina - but at some borders refuse entry unless you have it. Others supposedly allow a certain number of days in the country without insurance - eg Bolvia and Brazil, but frankly I have never been able to get official confirmation of what happens if you have an accident and cant produce policy documents. Do the police just lock you away or do they just let the fast growing crowd tear you apart. I get my liability insurance from Kaus Schubert in el Bolson and his policy covers all countries from Peru/Brazil and south

Insurance in Americas - problems for Brits
I'm a Brit travelling with my UK registered bike from Argentina to Alaska. I've read the threads about buying insurance at or just before you reach the border in south america. I have also seen that for US and Canada, several insurance providers have stopped taking new business from EU traveler because of data protection legislation that has made it difficult for them to comply. Does anyone have any suggestions for a motorcycle insurers (for the bike, not for travel and medical), to cover US and Canada that is still writing new business? And would you advise fully comp or 3rd party only in those countries?
