Insurance in the UK
I've just returned to the EU after 3 years and 7 months in Asia and the former USSR. To add injury to insult, I'm having difficulty finding insurance. I was expecting an insurance office at the Estonian side of the border, so drove past all the offices on the Russian side... but they will only insure CIS drivers. I'm going to try in town tomorrow, if that fails I will walk over into Russia again (minus car, will be quick) and buy it there... if that fails, I don't know what to do.
Now living in the UK, I'm used to getting shite (and paying more for it) compared to people who live in the more civilised countries of Europe (e.g. Germany), but this is ridiculous. I've been having a look at getting quotes for insuring my car, and so far:
-Short term insurance companies will not insure it beacause it is over 15 years old,
-Most standard insurance companies (e.g. AXA) will not insure it as for some daft reason it is not on their database (an old problem - it is a UK Hilux pickup which seems by some moronic logic to be classed as a commercial vehicle; it is not an import).
-My old insurer, CIS, say they will insure abroad for 'up to 8 days'. Total shite!
It's bad enough having to come to Europe, but this is total nonsense, is it really so improbablew to those wretched UK insurers that someone might take a car abroad for more than a week! Jesus, if I had a brick and could find their head office windows...
Please, can someone tell me there are some decent, useful insurnace companies out there???
Thanks, sorry for the rant
Daniel
