International Driver's Licence
International Driving Licence
Hi, this prehistoric document is still valid, and many countries have it on their list of required documentation. It is basically a translation of your national licence, showing what you are certified to operate. Albania is the only place I have ever been asked for it, and I think they were really looking for a present if I didn’t have the doc., he certainly looked dissapointed when I had one. If you are involved in a road accident it will help with the paperwork, that’s all. One of your national Automobile Associations has the right to issue the doc, for a fee, of course.
Safe travels

If you have a US driving license you can get one from the US mail order. It takes 4-6 weeks for mailing, or you can pay for faster shipping with DHL / UPS. I found this info here:
International Driving Permits

I've only be asked for it twice, once Iran, once Pakistan BUT it has come in handy on countless occasions when pulled by traffic cops at check points, they have no idea what it is but it looks official so you can tell them it's anything, insurance, allowing you to ride said motorcycle, anything really.you can't have to many official looking pieces of paper in my experience. The Library Card affect a Grant likes to call it.

They are cheap and are needed when travelling through Central and Southern America, I have had to show mine heaps of times at checkpoints.
Pay for two, if they decide to keep it you can ride away and still be OK

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
