more Cnada/US insurance questions.....sorry
Hi Guys and girls....
I've done a little post in the welcome bit that says a bit about me, so I'll miss that out for you. I'm planning on Canada US trip in May for approx. 12 months. So I'll either fly myself and my UK reg bike to Montreal and use the Motoexpress/HC Travel route for insurance...by the way, both these companies have been very kind and helpful with their advice etc. OR....I cargo ship myself and UK reg bike to Halifax NS possibly by ACL shipping and again use ME/HC Travel for insurance. OR EVEN....stay with me....I fly or boat to Halifax NS and buy a new bike from a dealer...no I hear you cry...!!! The reason for thinking this is that I can sell the bike if I want to cycle or hike/canoe, plus I can swap the type of bike or even store it up after visas are finished for future trips and it might make it easier for going in and out of the US. Soooo....from what I understand it is totally possible to buy and register a bike if you have a Canada/Halifax address...BUT... and here is what all this is about, I can't find any concrete information on an insurance company/broker who will write me a policy as a foreign visitor.... I've have read lots of vague articles by people who say they have done it themselves but none of them actually cough up a company name..??!! I have spoken to the lovely Cheryl at Fernet in the US and she thinks they can write me a policy to cover me for a Canada registered bike if I have a US address but thought that the Canada authorities might kick up a fuss,,,something I need to investigate. Unfortunately the ME/HC Travel insurance only covers non Canada/US registered bikes. Also...I've heard lots of stories that it's much easier to do this in British Columbia but nothing concrete and I've got it in my head that I want to travel East to West...for various reasons actually. So...if you're still reading...I would be most grateful if somebody...ANYBODY.... can give me some concrete guidance and advice on this situation. Love and peace... Barney.
