Hi Ashley, and welcome to the HUBB!
We need to distinguish three types of insurance before tackling your question.
1. Travel medical insurance is strongly recommended, including evacuation insurance. Click on the Medical Insurance links on the left side of this page or
click here to find contact information for companies who cover UK residents for up to 12 months. Do be careful to read the small print. Some companies figure riding a motorcycle is too dangerous a pastime to cover!
2. Third party liability insurance for your motorcycle is required in Europe, and your UK insurer can provide the Green Card document you will need as proof of insurance. Outside of Europe, each country which requires you to purchase liability insurance will sell it to you at the border. Just don't make the mistake of thinking it actually provides any real coverage if you do have an accident.
3. Comprehensive motorcycle insurance coverage (e.g. collision, theft, etc.) outside of Europe and North America - theoretically, this can be obtained, but the cost will be prohibitive. Best advice is just to get a good lock and alarm, and drive carefully.
There is an excellent Search facility on the top right of every page. If you put the phrase "motorcycle insurance" in you will get quite a few hits.
Also, check out the Trip Planning pages on the website. You'll find lots of answers are already there. Then you can ask specific questions on this and the other forums on the HUBB.
Good luck with your trip, and please let us know how you go.
