ownership papers in India
I just found out that my ownership papers in India are 'legal' but do not make me the legal owner. Went to an attorney to get my documents checked.
Apparently the bill of sale they give you and the sale affidavit are not legal. You need a form 29 and a document of 'no contest' from the original owner, even if you have legal form 29s say from the second owner.
I was informed that although the papers were legal in India, I would not be able to get the bike out of India. The only way would be to go to the state that the original owner, Ramesh, lived in and file all the paper work in that state. Once I located the allusive Ramesh the paperwork could take a month to process.
The bike was purchased originally from a second hand dealer in Delhi.
Anyone had this problem and over come it?
I have had this bike for 7 months, and spent a lot of time fixing her up. She's in great form and ready to go, hate to think of starting all over. Also, easier to bring her into the states because she's an old one, 1984.
Ahhhhh India....
