Paperwork for trip from UK to Balkans
Hi All,
I’m travelling 2up with my girlfriend from the UK to The Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro, and Albania.
Since I’ve never left the UK or Ireland on a motorcycle before I’m wondering what documents I will need to take with me.
I’ll be taking the following:
Passport
International Driving Licence
Insurance Certificate
V5? (not sure if I need this – would a copy do?)
Can anyone advise me on what other necessary documents I will need to take? Thanks in advance folks!

Ask your insurance company for a green card for Bosnia, Montenegro and Albania, it will save on buying border ins

Thanks Dave, I've just contacted my insurer -CIA Insurance, who have said that they do not issue green card insurance for Bosnia, Montenegro, and Albania. They also said to just carry my insurance certificate for the remainder of the EU countries and that should suffice.

Hi Estebangc, I have contacted my insurer and they stated that they do not issue green card insurance for Bosnia, Montenegro, and Albania - are saying that they are obliged to issue it to me?

They ain´t obliged. And you ain´t obliged to continue to be their non-valued customer. Go find an insurance which does what it is supposed to be doing - provide insurance. Give Whealie a call at The-Zebra.com.
And yes, you will need to carry your vehicle documentation, sometimes referred to as "vehicle passport" at Eastern Europe borders, whatever you call it in the UK. The piece of paper showing your vehicle´s VIN, registration, next MOT etc.
Cheers
Chris

I agree with Keks - you must bring your original V5 - bring colour copies as well in case you lose your original or send a PDF to a Hotmail account etc etc so you can get easy access if needed.
EU countries eg Bulgaria wont normally ask for documents other than a look at your passport if they have a border control.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
