Peru: New Tourist Visa Regs

I just read that the Peruvian Immigration Ministry has issued new regulations for those in Peru currently holding a tourist visa. In most cases you can no longer renew your tourist visa from within Peru.

Upon entry to Peru tourists will no longer be issued with a maximum 90 day stay, but instead receive a new 180 day stay. Prior to reaching the maximum allowable 180 days stay, the tourist must leave Peru and then return, where they will be entitled to a new 180-day visa, at the discretion of their immigration official, of course.

Overstay charges remain the same--$1 per day, payable upon leaving Peru.

However there is good news for visitors wanting to get a work or investor visa: you can obtain the visa without having to leave Peru.

Disclaimer: I'm not an authority of Peruvian immigration laws... just doing some research and this appears to be a new regulation. Read more here...

Just an advice. Reading the laws in Peru, I couldn't find anything allowing more than 90 days. The law says that you can apply (2) extensions of 30 days each, but only in (1) one year period.
I would like to know where those 180 days one time allowance came from.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
