Registration in S. America of foreign-plated vehicle
Hope I'm in the right place. If not, please redirect me.
I am intending to import my vehicle to Argentina. My understanding is that a vehicle thus imported, on foreign plates, can be freely taken from country to country, within S. Am., and I'm pretty sure that this understanding is correct. If, however, that vehicle IS REGISTERED WITHIN ARGENTINA, I am no longer free to travel from country to country with it.
Should I wish to leave Argentina -or another country, say Chile, Uruguay or Bolivia- temporalily (e.g. to visit Europe) WITHOUT THE VEHICLE, I would not be able to do this, I understand.
I WISH to register my vehicle within a South American country in such a way that I am free to travel with it from country to country, to sell it in the country of registration, if and when I wish, and to temporalily leave that country without it.
Where would this be possible? Chile, perhaps?
An unusual question, perhaps (?). I am at presently in the Gulf region, soon to be leaving to drive to Europe and ship to S. Am., all on local (Oman) plates, but not wishing to return to Oman later, with the vehicle, to sell it.
Please advise.
