Russian motor insurance in Ulan Ude
If you are entering Russia, using the Ulaanbaatar to Ulan Ude route, you may find that there are no insurance kiosks at the border. It is possible to buy insurance in Ulan Ude, but not all insurance companies seem to be set up to deal with temporary cover.
After a false start with Angara, who insisted that we needed official translations of our driving licences and vehicle title, then kept us waiting for two hours before giving up entirely because "our vehicles were not registered on the Russian database" (no shit, Sherlock) - we were referred to Rosgosstrakh (aka 'RGS Group'), who dealt with the whole thing in about 5 minutes flat.
Their address is
Rosgosstrakh
Pyatdesyat Let Oktyabrya 34a
Ulan Ude
The fact that we had the translations probably speeded things up, but don't bother to get them done at home. They cost 100 rbls each from Angara's translation service, and I expect there are others locally.
