Temporary import registration for South America
Hi,
My wife and I will be flying into Santiago, Chile from Australia in Sptember 06 on our Australian registered BMW 1150GS Adventure. We will travel through Peru, Bolivia & Argentina over a 5 month period, with no more than 6 weeks in any one country.
We will use Qantas/Lan Chile to fly the bike, but will not have a forwarding agent. The paperwork we will have include:
1. Dangerous Goods Certificate through DGM (Dangerous Goods Management) in Brisbane.
2. Bike registration papers (Australian)
3. International Drivers Permit (& Passport)
4. We plan to (probably) get third party insurance at each country along the way.
We won't have a carnet
I have heard there is a need to get a "temporario importation del vehiculo" (ie vehile temporary import paperwork).
Can anyone confirm this?
If so, where do I get it in Santiago?
Is it only required for Chile or other countries?
Also, for the return to Australia, we will have to get a DG Certificate. Has anyone got any recommendations on where to get this in Santiago?
Cheers,
Cords & Aash
