Temporary Importation Permit in Guatemala
I am shortly returning to Guatemala to be reunited with my beloved KLR, after an abscence of 6 months. I was able to leave without the bike by signing her over to another European by way of a "Carta Poder". This means that it is now his responsibility to get the vehicle legalised every 6 weeks.
I will be returning again in October to head back South to Argentina. What happens when I try to exit the country if I haven't been able to find anyone to take care of the permit in the meantime? Will I be able to pay a fine, or do I really risk losing the bike?
Other than get someone else to look after things I can't think of anything other than entering from Honduras by bus, and then going to Puerto Barrios to get the permit. Hopefully they wouldn't have any records that the vehicle had never left the country.
Any input, please?
