Thailand Cambodia Poipet Border
Entered Cambodia yesterday from Poipet with another HUBB'er. After the initial faff with visa and fingerprinting border guards told us to go to customs. Also met with another 2 bikers from KL who said they weren't allowed in. So we went to the customs not too hopeful but thought that it can't be right. Anyways the guy said we needed some document (it was in french I think) which they don't have. So we sort of told the story, overlanding, never had any problems elsewhere. Then he called his boss, who came and listened, the we showed them other stamps from other countries (like ones with a vehicle on). They kept saying theres nothing in Cambodian law etc etc, you enter at your own risk. After 20 minutes of arguing we convinced them to sign and stamp a photocopy of the V5 (bike registration document). To be fair, it would have been quite easy to just ride in as the customs building is not on the border it's on a main road in Cambodia. Will not be bothering on the way out.
Just thought I'd let peeps know if somehow you are refused entry.. it's sort of bullshit. No one asked or implied for any bribes or anything either.
All the best
