The marital status question
Hi
How do unmarried couples, obviously traveling together, deal with the question of "marital status" in visa applications or at border crossings, especially those of Muslim countries, where unmarried couples are either frowned upon or illegal?
Can we be denied access because we're an unmarried couple?
In the social context I understand that we could just say we're married, but an embassy or border employee might want to see proof if we claim to be married. Because forging a marriage certificate is a game I don't want to play, we are left with the option 'single'.
This will probably also raise questions because
1) we'll probably be applying for visa at the same time and
2) we have the same residential address
Or am I worrying too much about at problem that doesn't exist?
If you have been in a similar situation, what do you recommend?
Many thanks!
