THE WANDERER Getting insurance for the USA
I am just about to ride into the states, up to Canada and Alaska and back down into the states for a six month stay and travel period, where and what sort of insurance do I need to buy before I get there, some tell me it is only liability insurance you need.
Any advice would be good, I will be crossing in Tijuana some time next week

Hi Peter, I crossed into the US from Mexico about a week ago heading for Alaska. A friendly Mexican with an address in the US, Joe, the manager of the Belmar hotel in old Mazatlan, allowed me to use his address and get my insurance from Progressive over the internet, it was very quick and you can print off the document that you must carry and produce if stopped, 12 months worth comes to just under US$100.00 for the basic "third party". Drop me a PM when you start to head up the US if you fancy a , a word of warning, I'm in Flagstaff AZ at the moment and the snow stopped last night, it's clear now but still bloody cold but at least it's now on the + side. Ride safe.

Hi Peter, yes you need a US address and zip code and I am sure that one of the US HUBBERS wil let you borrow one of theirs. The web site is Progressive.com. Ride safe.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
