Travel Insurance for posessions left overnight in locked vehicle
Hello all,
With the high number of travellers driving their own vehicles on overland trips these days, I was hoping someone could help me with this travel insurance question...
There seems to be exemptions in most travel insurance policies for posessions left in a vehicle overnight. How do you guys get around that?
We are heading down to Cape Town on the well-trodden Middle East and East Africa route.
We will be camping most of the time.
Occasionally we might stay in a hotel or hostel.
We would also like to do some overnight treks or trips away from the car.
We are taking a fair bit of stuff, so if we decide to stay in a hotel/hostel for a night or two, it will be fairly difficult to lug all our posessions from our vehicle into the hotel room.
What do you do with all your stuff when you have to leave your vehicle for a night or two, i.e. for an overnight or multi-day trek or other trip, or for instance a trip to Zanzibar where you have to leave your vehicle on the mainland. Do you just have to accept that if your car gets broken into, then you won't get any insurance for all your posessions? Or have people found insurance policies that will cover posessions left in locked vehicles overnight?
Thanks very much
Ness
