Uk Sorn

SORN - Statutory Off Road Notification
For riders traveling for over a year or more it would appear possible to Re SORN a UK vehicle over the internet.

On the front of your Registration Certificate (or Log book for us ol boys) you will find a document reference number and using this you can apply for another 12 months SORN.

If you don't and a SORN expires it could cost a minimum of £40

Apply on line

Absolutely, I've done it a few times; everything else is online as well: re-taxing etc.
There is another thread from a short time ago on a similar theme with the advice to never, ever talk with the DVLA directly.

I'm also doing my insurance online with:-
eBike Insurance - Bike and Classic Bike Insurance from eBike Insurance
I have changed my bike insurance cover at "odd" hours of the day (like, say, 11 at night) and it is valid immediately.

All of this ties in with the automatic licence number plate recognition cameras which are proliferating by the day!
It is not only the police with access to the database but parking (clamping) private firms for instance, working on behalf of local councils - I don't recall what legislation gave them the right to see this information, but who knows?! :confused1:
These will automatically check every plate for current road fund tax and insurance cover.

...and MOT !
That is now on a fully computerised data base. Put there as the Certificate is prepared at the Test Station.

I also think there is a DVLA compuerised cross-reference from the Name and Address of the Registered Keeper as on the V5, to any Drivers Licence in that name and/or at that address.

I say this because, when stopped in a UK Police check recently, I was asked if it was my own vehicle, and to confirmed my name and address - which I gave as that on the V5. I was then asked about my Drivers Licence (which is listed at a different address). No question was made of Insurance, which is at the V5 address!

Oh, DVLA as you are probably reading this, the curent roll of toilet paper is white - at both addresses.
That OK with you lot?

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
