Hi Stephen
There isn't too much that you should take with you when going over the Channel. Paperwork comes down to all your normal bike papers - registration, licence, insurance, MOT cretificate. UK insurance more often than not these days comes with a 'green card' as standard which will give you third party (atleast) cover. Check with your insurers and tell them which countries you're going to. AA/RAC EU cover you might want. I don't bother with it myself as i find people are always only too pleased to help if you need it. You may be more comfortable or happier if you have it though. Less stress.
Make sure you take atleast 2 photocopies of all your document. One copy to take with you (as well as the originals), the other to leave at home just in case. Make sure you don't keep the originals and the copies together as if you loose one you'll loose both together!
You don't need an International Divers Permit (IDP) if you are staying in EU countries.
Outside that - its just the old passport.
For questions like this one, have a look at the links to the left under Trip Planning. All the answers are there because someone has asked the question before!
Have a good trip
Chris
