VISA for ANGOLA?

Can someone advise how to get the required letter of invitation for a visa for Angola. We are currently in UK, flying tback to Cape Town for our return trip at beginning of August. Have tried unsuccessfully to get Angola visa here, and anticipate long delays in southern Africa without it.

Could you send me an email because I'd like to ask you something off-line. My email is mjgzt@aol.com. Thanks v. much

At the HU meeting in the UK a month ago I saw a presentation of Lois (her homepage: Lois on the Loose) on her trip along West Africa down to Cape Town. She actually got the Angolan visa at the border, but this was apparently only a transit visa for an extremely tight time-table.

You could try this or, if any problems arise, just by-pass it via Zambia.

Angola Transit visas are 5 days .. too little time to transit safely in my opinion !
Other visas are harder to come by .. as your finding out ....

Good Luck ..

Transit visa OK

Hi Carol,
Good to hear you re taking the exciting route North. We met you months ago at Peponis in Tanzania.

Everyone is correct to say the transit visa 5 days is not enough time (although atleast one person has made it by driving all the hours possible and trashing their car). Although it is still an option, by paying a fine on departure. Infact we simply pleaded ignorance and weren't even fined after overstaying the 5 day visa by another 5 days. Anyway, it's an option I thought worthy of a mention.

Good luck

James

Hi Michael, Carol,

I'm planning to be riding back home via the West Coast after getting to Cape Town in a few weeks' time. Would be interesting to get in touch and compare notes.

Cheers

Richard

We are leaving for a trip to Angola on the 1st of Sept, you need to e-mail or contact a local hotel or bed&breakfast and ask them to send you a letter of invitation to them. Most places will do it for you, no problem, you need to supply them your passport number and purpose and route, you also need to stay over with them if possible.

Who de hell in Angola came up with such a stupid idea is beyond me.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
