Vladivostok customs clearance
Hi all
My car is now en route from Bangkok to Vladivostok. When it arrives at the other end, it will need to be cleared through Customs and I may also need some sort of shipping agent to receive the car?
I know other people have brought vehicles into Vladivostok. Does anyone know a) is it possible to do the customs clearance by yourself and b) is it necessary to appoint a shipping agent? If so, can you recommend anyone good?
When I shipped my car into Malaysia, I was told categorically that I couldn't clear it through Customs by myself, but I went there in person and it was done no problem at all. I found out the hard way that I'd been told correctly that I had to appoint a shipping agent though!
Thanks
Mark

Customs
Mark,
It is possible to do it yourself, depends on how time and energy you have to put into it. An good agent should help the process along though, if for nothing else to bridge the language barrier and to at least have some experience with the red tape. Some bikers have been able to clear in the same day or next when things go smoothly, some vehicles arriving by container have taken a couple of weeks when things weren't so smooth.
BTW, not sure what your port of arrival is, but Vostochny is a bit of a distance from Vlad and a one horse town so not a place you want to be hanging out in for too long.
Cheers.

Informations about the shipping
Hi Mark
we are going to ship our car from Bangkok to vladivostock in one and a half month, too. Our Rout should go from Vladivostok to India and later to Germany. Which company did you choose and how much did you pay? Maybe we can meet up somewere in russia. We hope that everything goes well...

Hi guys
The company I used was Seaswift Shipping in Bangkok. They were excellent and I would recommend them no problem. Where and when exactly will you be in Russia?

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
