when you're in stgo, go to the cargo terminal at the airport. i can pretty much guarantee the US carriers won't take your bike because already in early 2001 they didn't like 'dangerous goods'. post september 2001, a definite.

putting it in a box and sending it by sea is likely to be your only option. or trying to sell it in chile/argentina.

Both Hellmann and Panalpina have been recommended by travellers, but shipping out of South America requires due care and attention. At least with an international company, you can yell at them in the destination country if there's a problem, and they can't easily point fingers at the destination agent since it's also them!

Air freight should be less problematic than sea freight, and the cargo companies are used to vehicles so you won't encounter the hassles that you would if you try to go through a passenger carrier.
