Anybody need a bike shipped to Buenos Aires or Santiago?

Me: Need a bike in Chile/Brazil for about two weeks.

You: Want a bike shipped to Chile/Brazil from US

Plan: You provide bike, I pay for air shipping cost, ride the bike for a couple of weeks, and help arrange storage either in Buenos Aires or Santiago. Bike is then in South America left in ready-to-ride condition for your arrival.

$$: Plus or minus on either part as appropriate.

Anybody interested??

How do you intend to clear customs if the papers are not in your name?

I agree that the bike owner would need to be very careful in this arrangement.

On this forum somewhere is a thread where a bike in someone elses name was impounded at the border and never returned.

What company are you planning to use for shipping? I am looking to ship to Ecuador in the next few months from the US.

It's a silly idea because you can buy a Honda CGL125 for about $1500 new in Chile then sell it again for almost what was paid, why would anyone want to pay thousands in shipping costs and get nothing back for it?

Silly Idea! Is that your experience talking or friend of a friend told me.

If you have personal experiences that back your statements then share them with us.

I am living in Chile and have looked at all options! Buying here is do able if you have the time and want to go through the hassles. (Search the HUBB for others experiences). The cost of bikes here is just about double what they cost in the USA.

PBF's idea is sound for the short term he needs it. By the time you get the local ID required to have a Chilean bike in your name and find a bike to buy, then turn around and sell it again at the end there is not much time for travel.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
