Hey Zig,
I haven't heard of any direct shipments to Vlad either. It wasn't from North America, but I did toss a couple of bikes into a container that went from Oz into the port near to Vlad. It's a hassle at that end to clear customs and hard to predict arrival time. All in all, air usually ends up being better than sea, and due to the pros and cons, the most common routing from west coast North America is to Korea by air and then by ferry to Russia.

Me and my pal Mark (Bushman on this site) did a RTW this year from UK travelling west. We shipped from UK to Baltimore then we rode around USA and shipped from Seattle direct to Vladivostok. We had a 20 ft container. It is quite expensive but you can cut the costs by sharing a container if you can find like minded folks.
We flew to Vlad via Bejing (flew from Vancouver) and met the bikes there but you do need a good customs agent to help you clear the bikes. We used the expert services of Yuri Melnikov.
If you want a bit more info and contact details please PM me. You can get a bit of the shipping story from my blog http://strimstrum.blogspot.com

I'd like some more info on container shipping from Vancouver - Vlad (although I am going the other way)
The most consistent reports I am getting is that you have to do Vlad - South Korea- Vancouver (or in reverse).
How did you guys organise the container shipping, tried looking through your blog but I must have missed it somehow!
Thanks

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
