Crating a bike for container shipment to Asia
I am sending a bike from LAX to Asia in a few days by sea. I have drained the gas and disconnected the battery cables. I was wondering if the coolant absolutely needs to be drained? Does anyone have recent experience with this?

I've shipped a bike 6 times now - 4 times by sea and twice by air.
All you need to do is disconnect the battery. Forget emptying the coolant, I didn't bother to empty the fuel - left a litre or so in there so I could drive it straight out of the docks.
I even had a car shipped from Canda back to Australia with 1/2 tank of petrol, no problems at all.

Thanks for the info Garry. I will leave the coolant in the bike and now one less thing to worry about.

Well I received my bike in KL, Malaysia nearly 3 months ago and have since traveled around Malaysia and Thailand. The shipping process went smoothly. I crated the bike myself and delivered it to the port in Long Beach California. I stayed with a Malaysia family in Kuala Lumpur waiting for the bike to arrive. The bike was shipped from Port Klang to my friends in KL where I unloaded the bike and reassembled it. I drove away 3 days later. I am getting ready to ship the bike to Indonesia by boat in the the next week or 2.
