Flying bikes into Cairo

We have just flown our bikes from london to cairo with Egyptair. Having gone over to their cargo last night we were instantly bombarded with the usual stuff. But they have tried to tell us that the price will be 4000egyptian pounds (400pounds)to get the bikes out and to sort out licenses and stuff. We have a carnet and this is way more than what we have been told.

Does anyone know what the price should be?how it works?and maybe a good fixer in Cairo?

Otherwise I used this other one below to clear stuff last December.. I won't use them again because I value honesty and transparency, but I got my stuff.

It isn't cheap either. In any case negotiate the price prior to engaging the service. Expect unforeseen charges, smile and drink it down later.
All in all 4000 EGP for 2 bikes with temporary plates, insurance, headaches, and the joy of dealing with the Egyptian bureaucracy appears somehow reasonable. Now be aware this is only the beginning of the adventure.

It's for everything. Lost a day last week with them, they wanted to see if the serial number of the engine had changed on my 300Tdi, they could not locate it! Then they wanted me to buy a safety triangle, then a first aid kit, then.. Learn the golden rule from idiots before you: Never loose your temper with them or it becomes worse after. Tell us all about it when you're through, please.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
