Germany/Europe to Australia

Hi all

I've been reading up and down the forum about shipping our bikes from Germany to Australia. The "Actual Shipments" are somewhat outdated, so any info you have would be appreciated...?

There seems to be a lot of risk regarding hidden costs and delays involved with ship freight?

So we were wondering whether there is an affordable airfreight option somewhere?

We have heard rumours of riding up to the Cargo guys from Quantas at Frankfurt airport and they would load your bike onto a plane no problem, as long as you fill out the dangerous goods document, etc. All that despite the front desk people saying it's not possible.

I called the cargo guys at Frankfurt this morning, and they said Quantas don't fly from there anymore, they have now hooked up with Emirates. When I insisted the above used to be possible, I was told that the guy who used to help bikers get their steeds shipped in this way, had passed away half a year ago and his business closed. Sad news!

Now, whenever I contact an airline directly, they tell me to contact the various cargo/logistics agents and say directly dealing with the airline is no longer possible. Some legislation concerning all airlines apparently.

Does anyone have any recent experience of dealing with the airline directly? Or any other tips re flying/shipping the bikes to Australia?

Thanks

Has anyone heard of or used Carl Hartmann before? Their seafreight quote is amazingly cheap. Not complaining of course just wondering what the catch is...
