Getting a motorcycle to the Caribbean/Bahamas from the U.S.

I'm trying to get my motorcycle to a Caribbean/Bahamas location this summer. I'd like to go by boat from somewhere on the East Coast or Florida. Any suggestions or recommendations?

Bump.

I too, would be interested to hear if there are any possibliities with that.

Sure, I'd love to be in Florida for January, but extending a trip to the Bahamas or some other Caribbean island by putting my bike on a boat and then a day later, get to ride, would be awesome

getting over to Cuba

Me too... I am looking for a feasible/affordable way to get my bike from Canada or even Mexico to Cuba. Florida is out I guess for Cuba what with the embargo. Cuba would be an excellent island for motorcycling, or so I have thought when bicycling there a few times.
Anybody have any ideas?

boat to Cuba

I was in touch with Ludwig, Captain of the Stalratte (Steel Rat) which plies the waters from Panama to Colombia through San Blas Islands, etc. He did a trip to Cuba/Jamaica in November with at least one biker on board. He plans to do another trip in April much the same itinerary. Trouble is he sails from Panama/Colombia so you have to be planning to ride down that far or already be down there, below or above the canal.
I am trying to persuade Ludwig to do a more biker-focused tour preferably starting from, say, Mexico and more of a freighter for biker customers (though he could mix this with other regular passengers happy to stay on the boat). I myself would get off the boat and ride around Cuba for at least 3 weeks or a month preferably finding my own lodgings, etc. and then get on the boat again when it is headed back. He spent a week or so in Jamaica as well last time, but Jamaica pales in comparison to Cuba. I have been to Cuba many times including a couple bicycle trips and it is ideal for motorcycling, preferably a dual purpose but even a cruiser would work if you dodge the pot-holes.
Any interest out there? Enough of us could probably motivate Ludwig to do something for us for a reasonable fee. Sign up now for next November, hopefully out of Mexico's Yucatan.

Cheers
Larry

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
