India (Chennai) to Bangkok

Hi Guys ...

Am on the point of heading into India from Pakistan and will need to consider air-freight across to Thailand early December ...

I recently replied to a thread to a guy called Chris who was asking for someone to share a crate (to keep costs down), so am doing the same here having not yet received any replies as yet ...

While my route's not set in stone, am intending to go down through the middle of India and end up in Chennai ready to ship. So if anyone's got definite info' for who to use, or indeed want to share crating late Nov/early Dec across to Bangkok, then get in touch or PM me. Alternatively if anyone's looking to air-freight from another city and want to share costs/hassle at that time, can change my route ...

Regards Len Jones

update

Am now in Delhi, and have recently contacted one agent who's quoting 50 000 Rupees.

Anyone interested in sharing crating/costs then get in touch/PM me.

Hi Lenz
Sorry cant help you with your request but I'm very interested in the outcome of your shipping from Chennai to Bangkok since I'm looking at doing the same the other way round. We are leaving Australia at the end of the year to travel to Europe.
So if you can keep me posted on your experience that would be great.
Wish you good luck and save trip.
Mark

Janyary 6th, 2008, we freighted our Vstrom by air Chennai-Bangkok, on Malaysia Airlines (MASKargo), so it went via Kuala Lumpur. The price was roughly about 600 euros total, and the shipping agent in Chennai was Shell Air. Would have cost a bit less to KL I think. Customs at the Indian end were a hassle, but still everything went quite well, and the bike arrived in BKK on schedule, and in good condition. BKK customs werent a problem (but we did have a thai-speaking person assisting us).

For reasons unknown to me, Thai Airways refused to transport the bike... but I think several people have sent between Kathmandu-BKK using Thai, dont know why India seems to be different.

I was also in contact with some seafreight companies, but surprisingly their offers were nearly the same price. I´d pay 200-300 maximum to freight it by sea, and wouldnt use Bangkok´s seaport, as Ive heard many warnings about it. I´d probably try to get it to Port Klang (KL) or Butterworth (Penang). Very good, fast road connecting Bangkok with Penang and KL.

Also heard about some problems / some kind of strike at Chennai seaport at the time, which might have affected transit time considerably. Even without any strikes, it wouldve taken a total of some 2-3 weeks to get it done by sea, depend on when the ships will sail. Flying is much quicker, and handling at the airport much smoother. Also, if you can send 2 bikes as one shipment, that´ll make it a bit cheaper per bike.

Hi Guys,
Len will have already seen this on my site, but full details of Chennai to KL shipping by air are here. I assume that the 'exiting india' process will be much the same when going to Bangkok.
India to Malaysia Shipping
When I used ShellAir, I think that I was their first bike transport and they weren't so efficient. By the looks of things, they've done a couple more shippings for people on the HUBB and worked out what's what.
One warning: do not underestimate how much of a bureaucratic nightmare India can be!

Used the info on planitearth.co.uk to ship from Chennai to BKK, with the exception that you just need to go to Govias and sons and they will take care of everything. Gratian Govias is very professional, and did a good job.
