Hi Andy
I'd shipped my bike to Madras in late April & paid US$150 for an Indian Clearing agent through my S'pore shipper.I was told there are many clearing agents hanging around the port warehouse, they are sort of freelancer who knew the long procedures of the Indian Customs. You can grab hold of one & bargain a price,it's definitely much cheaper than $150.
I failed to claim my bike after 2 trips to Madras,it was then reported lost & was found a month later at the Indian Customs. My shipper promised to ship it back to Singapore but untill now,I've yet to see my bike since April. They said it's a very problematic & difficult procedure to claim & ship my bike back, maybe impossible.
My Indian agent in Madras is WORLDBRIDGE SHIPPING AGENCY.Never ever employ their services, all you'll get are countless cheap lies & nightmare.I found it the hard way, lost thousands of dollars & the chance to ride from India to Ireland.
I suggest you to spend a bit more to fly your bike to Kathmandu instead.Much faster & safer.Overland entry to India is just a breeze.
