Korea (Sokcho) to Russia (Vladivostok/Zarubino) Ferry

Can anyone help with with the ferry schedule? I have read the Zarubino route is closed...then I have read it is open. I cannot find a working website for the ferry operator. Basically, I need to know what days and times it leaves from Sokcho so I can organize my Russian visa. Thank you! Please respond to cfsandiego@hotmail.com.

Here is what I have learned so far. I expect a message from the Korea Ferry Tourism Board clarifying the days and times. As it is today, the ferry does not go to Zar anymore. It leaves (according to one schedule posted, there are disagreements with other posted schedules) at 1500 Tues, Thurs, and Fri. Another posting has it leaving at 1000 Tues, Thurs, Fri, & Sat. The man at the office said he would check and get back to me with valid confirmed times. When he does, I will post them. The costs vary a lot with passport, luggage, vehicle, etc, but the only certain fees are the embarking fee of 7000 won, the fuel tax of 7000 won, and the disembark fee of 8 rubles. All vehicles have to be in the loading area 2 hours ahead of time.

Dong Chun Ferry

I just got an email from Dong Chun Ferry that they ARE operating. This is confusing. Am I misreading this? Here is the text of his email. Should I believe that it is operating at this time. I need to go around the middle of July and I am trying to sort out my visa.

Thanks!!

Sorry Chris, I tried to post this yesterday, but something kept telling me I was not logged in. Okay, the ferry runs from Sokcho to Zar to Vlad tue, thurs, fri, and sat. it leaves at either 1000 or 1500 and you have to check the bike in two hours before departure. The guy was not clear about which days were leaving in the morning and which were in the afternoon. I asked him in my halting korean to send me an email with exact details, but he hasn'[t done it yet. Depending upon the machine and amount of luggage, the fee runs from 425USD to 650USD. He gave the fares in korean won, so my numbers are not exact but are within one dollar. I opted for the high side rather than the low, so it might only be 423.85 or something like that.

If I leave this message now I might not be able to log back in so I will go back to the place where I go the info and get the phone number and address and get it to you one way or another. if you call from the west coast of the states, subract 7 hours from your time and call it tomorrow. In Oregon right now it is 11:16 pm wednesday and here it is 4:16 pm Thursday.

If I can do anything else just email me. Don't know how you are getting to Korea, but if you come down 32 miles south of Seoul, here we are and you are welcome to spend what ever time you need with us.

Joe

Ed,
From what I hear, the only ferry now available is DBS Cruise Ferry's service from Donghae to Vladivostok. The website for Dong Chun (www.dongchunferry.co.kr) is no-longer available. DBS has a website in Korean, Japanese, and Russian.
However, while it has all sorts of really useless information like messages from the CEO (at least in Japanese, the only one of those language I am fluent in), there is no contact, reservation, or fare information.
Most of the text is in images or flash, so you can't use online translators.
bokoo66 <<AT>> dbsferry {{DOT}}com might be the email address.
Try it and see if you get an answer.
