Container Share Dili to Darwin - Sept 2011

Hi All,

We are planning on shipping our vehicle from Dili to Darwin sometime during September 2011,

Trying to save on shipping costs, so if anyone else is looking to do the same please let us know.

Martin

Hi Martin

We're going in exactly the opposite direction around-about that time! .. and should be arriving in Dili - from Darwin (using Perkins Shipping), during the first week of September. Perkins appear to issue their export schedules 6-8 weeks in advance; so exact departure date should be known by no later than early-mid next month (July).

Maybe we could meet-up somewhere along our respective paths?

All the best

KEITH [& ELLEN]

Hi Keith,

Im sure we will pass each other somewhere on route, let us know when you arrive in Dili, we can then arrange to meet up.

Do you mind letting us know how how much you've been quoted to your ship vehicle with perkins?

Good luck with your trip

Martin

Brilliant stuff Martin .. .. it would be good to meet-up with fellow Westcountry-based travellers so far from home. Incidentally, I lived and worked in Boscombe /Bournemouth for five years (1996-2001) – and loved it there.

To answer your question: I called in to see Perkins at their Darwin Office (Frances Bay Drive) on May-13th just past. Note that the quotes below are for a motorcycle and not a 4x4 vehicle:

Crated:-
Ocean Freight: AUD$100.00 per weight (tonne) or measure (m3), min 1 cbm
ETT (East Timor Tax): 2.64% of Ocean Freight
BAF (Fuel Surcharge): AUD$18.00 per weight (tonne) or measure (m3)

Uncrated:-
Ocean Freight: AUD$100.00 per weight (tonne) or measure (m3), min AU$350.00
ETT (East Timor Tax): 2.64% of Ocean Freight
BAF (Fuel Surcharge): AUD$18.00 per weight (tonne) or measure (m3)

Darwin Local Charges:-
Port Service Security: AUD$0.25 per weight (tonne) or measure (m3)
Port Service Charge: AUD$10.00 per weight (tonne) or measure (m3)
EDN (if applicable): AUD$60.00 of Bill of lading

Should the item be classed as a 'Dangerous Goods', then a surcharge will be incurred.
No local charges in Dili are included in the above – these will be in addition.

NB: The above prices are only guaranteed for 30 days, so they're already potentially out of date.

----------------------

More Useful Info:

Take a look at this thread: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...-perkins-57501

.. indicating that Perkins Shipping has recently opened-up an office in Dili, which will save dealing through a third-party agent at the East Timor end. This is worth knowing.

Hopefully see you in September. Let's keep in touch.

All the best

KEITH [& ELLEN]

How set are you on shipping in September? My carnet runs out 9th of Oct and will be shipping as close to that date as possible, not sure if that is of any use to you.

We have a VW T25 / T3.

I have actually only come online to look into this process and found your message. Don't suppose you have any info on shipping a vehicle do you yet?

Hi Martin,

Thanks for the reply, our carnet runs out end September, so we have to leave by then, in addition we are due to meet family out in Oz too. So our leaving in Sept is a must for us.

We were planing on using Perkins to ship the vehicle.
