oz/nz to south america
hello,
i've seen some ideas here and there on the site about transport from oz/nz to south america
from oz, i plan to go to nz then to reach south america (patagonia)
what are the different transport possibilities ?
what are the prices around ?
how long does it take ?
some people say it's about the same price shipping and flying : i don't understand how,i thought it would be much more expensive with plane than boat, (same story between india and nepal),
some people say don't take the boat between nz and south america ???
...
any experience, ideas would be warmly welcome :-)
thanks a lot
safe travels

Hi there,
I'm planning to do the seem thing. It's possible to ship your bike from OZ to NZ in 12 days fr 465 Ozzie dollars. You have to crate it yourself. You can pick up free crates for your motorbike at Actionmotors in Parramatta (Sydney). You have to modify them a little bit to fit you own bike.I also found a company who can ship my bike from Auckland (NZ) to Santiago (Chile) for 1400 NZ dollars. This thake around 26 days.
I made some phone calls to check prices for bike by plane but that is VERY expensive. Stick to the boat.I don't have the addresses with me at the moment but give me an email on globalkoster@hotmail.com and I'll send them to you. When I finnaly got some serious quotes I'll put them on this website.
When are you leaving and where are you at the moment?
See ya, Roland

Hi Roland,
The quote you got for NZ to Chili is cheap, but does this include cost on arival? This could add up.. and add up... and add up..
I have to make the same crossing (NZ or OS to SA (Argentina or Chili) so I'm very interested in your experiances.
I'll be there probably around feb. 2002 or okt 2003 (avoid the rain)

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
