Cool Portsmouth to Santander ferry - prices out!!!!

Great news! The prices have been announced for the new Portsmouth to Santander ferry being operated by Brittany Ferries from March 2009. I was quoted £206 return for me, the bike and a reserved reclining seat. An amazing saving over the 'cruise' that P & O offer. The best thing is it takes just 24 hours rather than the P & O option of 36 hours. No more slog through France for me!

See you in the sand.

are they the same reclining seats with no footrests as the plymouth ferry? if so take your sleeping bag & sleep on the floor. most people did when i used the plymouth ferry last time.

It looks like Speed Ferries are going to go out of business at the moment

We've booked Norfolk Line instead as the French have impounded the Speed Ferries boat.

You could even go one better and be like the couple I saw in the tent, in the reclining seat lounge !!!!! It was one of those 2 seconds up thingies that don't need any pegging down. Sure liked like a great way to get a good night's sleep in privacy.

I notice the bike price on the P&O 2-night karaoke cruise out of Ports to Bilbao (with cabin compulsory) has dropped by £50 for 2009, possibly in response to the new Brit Ferries service out of Ports. It's now about £325 against £205 from BF. And it’s worth noting that P&O run all year (handy for Morocco), whereas Brit Ferries only run to Santander mid-March to mid-Nov (actually best times in Morocco).

Great to have a ‘one night/ no compulsory cabin’ service out of handy Portsmouth, although I found if you leave the Brit Ferries booking late (ie: a few days before) the ‘reclining seats’ option mysteriously disappears from the online menu, so be warned.

Brittany Ferries - cheap but useless dates?

Hi All,

I just checked the Brittany Ferries website and the only outbound dates which would be of use for this event Santander route are Tue 14th and Sun 19th July, so assuming it's still a 24 hour voyage you'd either be there nearly a week early or miss the prep day. Even better, in terms of return dates they offer the equally useless Wed 22nd or Mon 27th, so if you wanted to make use of the planning day and enjoy the full 2 days of HUMM you'd be looking at near enough a 2 week expedition. Which is probably enough time to walk to Spain.

P&O's Bilbao route is marginally more convenient, so assuming the same requirement of wanting to attend the full 3 day event you'd be looking at leaving on Thu 16th (arriving early 18th) and heading back on Fri 24th to arrive the next day. I know it's nearly 50% more than the Brittany offering and that the outbound leg boasts an additional 12 hours to spend in the company of Tattoed Ned and his Bearded Wife, but factor in all the extra accommodation you'd need and Brittany doesn't seem that cheap after all.

Mup.

Surely your not going all the way to the Pyrenees just for the weekend? 2 weeks sounds like just enough time to sample the excellent roads and food.
