register my asian bike in europe
Hi folks,
I am new to this board and maybe you can help me with this. I have an old but dear yamaha bike which i have used with pleasure for the last couple of years here in Thailand. Now I would like to ship it with me to Germany. The problem is that this bike doesnt have a legal Thai registration, nor the legal paperwork. All I have is an invoice on the purchase of the engine (which i changed last year). Now, is it possible for me to get this bike to Germany, and also to get it registered, so that I can drive it on the streets without getting into trouble with the law???...And if, what would it cost?
Hope you can help me...
Simo

Now THIS sounds a little tricky!
German registration is tricky enough, when you actually buy a bike HERE, but importing a (as German customs would assume) "stolen" bike without paperwork, no exhaust-check, no roadworthyness...
Anyhow:
This is a Link someone posted somewhere else and I bookmarked it - seems to be quite interesting!

Best bet would be to ring your Embassy and ask those guys - I'm sure there's someone else with the same problem somewhere!
I RECKON it would be easiest (and maybe cheapest) to BUY a bike here and sell it afterwards - as far as that I could help you out, you just need to worry about rego and insurance...
...you see - not every bike in Germany is registered, but every bike on German ROADS is (including roadworthyness and insurance)!
Ah - a little something I forgot - if you can get a fitting German FRAME for the bike with a vehicle-letter (the paperwork - I assume you know what I mean) and so on I'm sure you won't get a prob with the parts - but be carefull - the exhaust-concerning regulations can be pretty nervewrecking - ist your FRAME older than '89 you shouldn't get into trouble though ;-)
