ship bike from Philippines to Thailand?
Hi there!
Been lurking a while and found some great info on this site. I now have a
question concerning an upcoming trip plan and I did search here for the
answers but didn't find anything that really applies to my situation.
I have a Yamaha WR450 that is legally registered in the Philippines. I want
to ship this bike to Thailand for a month or so of riding in Thailand and
Cambodia and then ship it back to the Philippines.
I have tried to research air and sea freight from Philippines but am not finding
much conclusive information. I believe I have tracked down a freight forward
company that will handle sea transport out of the Philippines but it is difficult
to get information out of them and I really feel like there should be more options.
Also for the trip back I am completely overwhelmed at the number of Thai freight
handlers I am turning up. Which come recommended?
I am open to the possibility of air freight, and it seems that Thai airways does
ship bikes but again am having trouble getting info applicable to shipping to and
from the Philippines. Are any other airlines serving that area known to ship bikes
without too much hassle?
I would love to just ride it from Cebu to Thailand using the ferrys but I
don't have the time available that trip would take.
As for Thai customs, it looks like I should not have any issues there since
with the foreign registered bike I should qualify for the Thai temporary import
permit. Likewise, there should not be any problem returning the bike to
the Philippines due to it already being registered there.
Anyone ship a bike FROM the Philippines before? Really struggling to find
useful information so any advice, suggestions or comments greatly are
appreciated!!
Thanks!
Jim

Hi Jim,
This is a good thread.. I'll be following it as I would like to ride through RP on my own bike and am just now starting to figure out what needs to be done. I know it is possible as I read a story about an older couple who rode their Harley up from Indonesia.. Anyway, don't mean to HJ your thread, just going to watch.

Many times on this forum shipping into Bangkok has been stated as dire, most of your holiday may be spent waiting for the bike to clear customs, whilst flying into Bangkok has been stated as easy, sometimes same day. Sorry I can't recommend a shipping agent, I do live in Thailand but have never shipped a bike here. Your bike willl be given the same number of days temporary import as you have on your visa, so if you want more than 30 days [on arrival] apply for a tourist visa in advance which will give you 60 days.
