UK to Cental America

I need to move a bike from the UK to Costa Rica and since that may be asking to much I can probably possession in Panama

Already contacted ACL and Independent and they don't go to Central America

Waiting for a callback from Maersk

Thanks

I'm pretty sure some German companies do this.

I don't understand all the exasperated smileys, I'm not naive but I really don't understand what I said wrong No I haven't checked airlines because I didn't think I could afford this.

As for selling the bike, the very purpose of this move is to get a used XT660 from the UK to Costa Rica where I ride 3 or 4 times a year. I'm flying down on Aug 11th to finish negotiating the purchase of a piece of land so I can house my own bike for when I go down, renting is getting expensive.

I've made the ride from the US to CR more than once, this is not the problem. They don't sell the XT in the US and I like this bike better than the KLR or DR although if I cannot afford to import the XT I will settle for the others.

I have also priced a new Brazillian XT660, since it's not sold in CR the cost of the bike + Import Tax is $10,000 + which is too much.I can buy a very low mileage 2003 XT660 for $4000 in the UK, Import Tax will be $700 +/- and that leaves shipping costs, I was hoping it would be $700 - $1000

Which is why I started the thread

Thank you for the sound advice Patrick. it is funny how different people have different favorites, sometimes something just feels right and as I've aged I've learned the value of going with your heart, if it feels right and it makes you smile.........

However, I also have limited funds and that's the very reason I need to minimize/justify the extra cost of bringing in the XT versus riding in a DR. If I can't find a cost effective method of shipping an XT the DR will be my next choice, both good bikes for 5'7". :-)

I have friends keeping an eye open for large cc trailies in CR but they are few and far between and there's a large community of German expats who grab most decent finds for their countrymates.

That said, finding a shipping agent in Costa Rica isn't an option, terrible to say but they're generally clueless, finding a UK agent is possible but I'm not sure how to go about this. Since Panama Canal is next door you would think this a good option, although passing through has little to do with off loading.

As for a freight airline, I'll start searching this forum for good leads

Thanks

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
