In Need of Your Wisdom!

Hi everyone,
First of all, a huge thank you to all of you for building this amazing community. I wouldn’t know where to start without the HU forums and your Facebook groups. I’ve been soaking up information from here for quite some time now, but honestly.. i get lost in all the information.

I’m currently rebuilding my 1991 Africa Twin in preparation for a world trip that I plan to start in June 2026. There’s still a lot of work to do on the bike, but i thought it would be time to gathe information to plan my route as cost-efficiently as possible.
Here’s an outline of my planned trip, and I’d love to hear your advice or experiences:

1. Netherlands to Japan
I’ve read a lot about the route from Russia (Vladivostok) to Japan, and the name Yuri Melnikov keeps popping up. I’ve already contacted him, and he mentioned that current sanctions against Russia make it difficult to ship bikes back and forth to Japan.
Does anyone have experience with alternative routes or methods to get a bike from Russia (or elsewhere, Mongolia?) to Japan? Or is it just a matter of waiting and seeing how the situation unfolds?

2. Japan to Southeast Asia
My next step will be shipping the bike from Japan to Southeast Asia, ideally Cambodia. Since this doesn’t seem to be a common shipping route, I’m open to other destinations in Southeast Asia to keep costs down.
Does anyone have recommendations for shipping companies, routes, or tips to minimize expenses?

3. Southeast Asia to Australia
Once I’ve explored Southeast Asia, I’ll need to ship my bike to Australia, most likely from Malaysia. Any idea of the costs or logistics involved? On this topic the name Maskargo pops up a lot?

4. Australia to Chile
From Australia, I plan to ship my bike to Santiago, Chile. I understand this is a popular shipping route, and there’s plenty of information available online. However, if anyone could share their recent experience or give me an idea of the costs, that would be super helpful.

Once I’m in South America, I’ll need to reassess my budget and decide whether to head home or keep going. Who knows what the future holds!
