Hi Jose,
I flew my bike from Frankfurt to Vancouver in 97 and from Cologne to Buenos Aires one year ago. Both airports are very easy and efficient. Although in Buenos Aires the first questions was Carnet de Passage por favor.
Check the air cargo companies at the airports, as they are specialised in handling small cargo and have their affiliated offices at the destination to support you. Some of them even provide the pallettes to put your bike on. Otherwise, BMW-dealers give the used ones out for free.
1000 USD one way is not cheap, will you take out the frontwheel to make the volume smaller and transportation cheaper?
There is no need to book the return flight from Vancouver now. Just wait until you get there and look around at the airport. Maybe it will be cheaper by then, if the Euro/dollar exchange rate gets more favorable:-)
suerte
Werner
