Shipping bike with expired permit from Quito?
Hello Guys. My bike has been parked in Quito for a year and a half now, and nearly all efforts to sell it have failed. I'm now thinking of trying to ship it back to Vancouver, but not sure if this is possible. The permit expired a long time ago! Can this be done avoiding paying the fine of 10% to Aduana? Has anyone tried this, and what shipper would you recomend? I'm not in a rush, so i can ship by boat if it is reliable.
Thanx in advance!

Hi Mr. Ron!
Hi Mr. Ron, do you remember me?
Just had a similar problem in Argentina...2 years expired, was very difficult for me to get the bike out of the country. I flew into Argentina and took it out myself - it was the only way to do it. And maybe you remember, my Spanish is pretty good...if not it would have been impossible. They confiscated the bike first, later I had to pay a fine...there was no way around it.
Will you go to Quito to bring the bike out yourself?
If you get one day to Germany - let me know...
Come to the 2nd HU Meeting in May 21.5.-24.5.2009!!!

Hello Jens, of course i remember! Yes, i've heard of the bike problems in Argentina, and i hope it's not the same in Ecuador. I can afford to ship from Quito, or maybe even Peru, but i can't afford to fly down and take care of the logistics. I would pay someone for crating the bike and dealing with customs, and i'll even buy the proper people a couple of refrescos if i need to, but the cost of flying to Quito and back from Vancouver is too high! I know this, I WANT MY BIKE BACK! You've seen it, there's none other. Hoping there is an answer out there! Anyone want to ride my bike to Peru and put it on a plane for me :confused1:

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
