Shipping bike to quito from panama...
hi folks,
Any ideas which shipper people are using for shipping?
Information on the shipping link is quite old and was hoping theres someone out there whose done it recently

Hi , try Girag Air lines. I shipped with them in March from Bogata to Panama and they were great. Reasonable pricing too. I tied shipping from Quito and it was a total pain. Needed an agent and couldn,t deal direct with the air line and couldn,t get sipping schedules.
Decided to ride Columbia and was glad I did. Beautiful country. Had a great time in Calie with some Columbian riders I met.
Was riding solo.

Thanx Albert, don't know about that, but I definitely have learned there a whole lot of different opportunities if you choose Colombia instead.

Know nothing about Quito!

Let me know if you need specifics about Colombia/Panama!

Girag is a shipping agent, so they do the paperwork which will cost you approx. 300 dollars.

But you can go directly to the Airport terminal in Panama city and talk to COPA Airlines at their office. They take the bike in rigth away, strap it to a airline pallet. No need for shipping agent, no need to empty fuel or oil or crate.

You drive off in Bogota, Medellin, Baranquilla or Cali. If you ship directly to Cali I can help you with the paperworks at the DIAN. The other cities you're on your own, but its fairly easy. You need copies of you passport, stamp of entry to Colombia, ownership papers and a written letter in spanish stating that you own the bike (include details on bike and your personal details).

They'll issue a temporary importation document according to the days visa in your passport!

Just had two guests that flew with Copa to Cali paid abpout 600 dollars, no probs and fixed paperwork and cleared everything here same day the bike arrived!

thanks for the info.

We spent a few hours at the cargo area of the Panama airport gathering information (some more reliable than others).

Initially we were trying to get to Medellin from Panama. COPA office was closed but we understood that they only cargo to Medellin one day per week, which left us in Panama city for way too long. So we went over to Girag who said they have a flight going out that night to Bogota. Turns out they didn't have any space on the flight and we are now back to figuring out our options.

Will contact COPA again to see how often they fly to Bogota when the office opens on Monday. (anyone here know?)

We want to start riding Colombia further north than Cali, so we will try for Medellin or Bogota.

It seems like Girag or COPA are our only air options...

anyway, thanks again for your input and we'll see what happens.

Well there should be a COPA plane once per week per city. You can also fly to Baranquilla on the Caribean coast. Other option is shipping by boat, but I don't know to much about that. I'm sure other people here have stories of succes and failure to tell on the boat ordeal ;-)

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
