Shipping London to Delhi
Hi, I'm looking to ship a BMW 650GS from London to Delhi. I've had a quote of 1000 pounds from www.motorcylemovers.com. Can anyone suggest another forwarder, UK based to try for a quote ?
Thanks for any help / guidance /URL's.

Hi Matt and welcome!
First, check out this page on the Air vs. Sea shipping question:
http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/tri...t/shippers.php
We generally don't recommend sea shipment due to the uncertainty about when the bike will arrive. Also, although the quoted costs are less, the total cost may not be much of a saving over air, as port charges can be quite high. And sea shipping into a developing country where you don't speak the language means you'll likely have to pay an agent to clear the bike through customs, which also adds to your cost.
However, if you decide to ship by sea, suggest you use an international shipping company such as Wallenius Wilhelmsen http://www.2wglobal.com/Applications...lAddresses.jsp
or Panalpina http://www.panalpina.com who have received good reviews from travellers.
You don't mention whether your quote was for air or sea shipment, or whether it included all port charges at destination. If it's for air shipment, it sounds a little high. If it's for sea shipment, it sounds very high. If it's just sea shipping charges, and doesn't include destination charges, it sounds like a rip-off.
All the shipment information we have is on the Shipments page:
http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/tri...t/shipping.php
I did find several other UK agents to contact, from the Shipments page:
Cutler Freight
East London
Phone 020 8301 6626
Luna Shipping
Phil Love
01992 579 296
H. Snelling (Marine)
Southampton
Phone: Colin on 023 80 893810
hsnellingmarine@tiscali.co.uk
If you are shipping by air, you can also try contacting the cargo division of British Airways or Air India directly for a quote.
Good luck, and let us know how you get on. Please fill in the Shipping Form when you get there, so other travellers can benefit from your experience. http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/tri...p#shippinginfo

The quote was for air shipping LHR to Delhi, I asked them to include all costs crate etc. Personally I thought it was a bit much even for air.
Thanks for your reply.

Hi Matt
Did they give you a price per kg, and a separate price for the crate? You can probably reduce your costs by getting a crate from a local m/c dealer, or if necessary building your own. See the following link for information on how to reduce the shipping costs:
I also found another excellent thread on this topic, including very good comments by PanEuropean, who is an airline pilot and really knows the topic.
