Shipping Minnesota to Guayaquil, Ecuador
I've been trying for about 10 hours to find an air shipper from Minnesota to Guayaquil without any luck.
The trip will have to be done in 5-6 week segments 2-3 per year over 2-3 years (time off from work).
As you have to somehow get past the Darien gap (southern Panama) and my time is limited (5 weeks) on this first leg of the trip, it looks like shipping to Ecuador and riding to Buenos Aeries seems like the best plan.
The plan then would be over time to do a few trips out of BA and later the loop home up thru Uruguay, Brazil, Columbia, Central America.
I've checked out all the shippers on this site as well as others without luck.
Anyone have any great suggestions to get these 2009 1200's to SA?

Just found out there's a freight boat to Cartagena, Colombia every Friday from Miami.
So instead of doing the very expensive airplane shipment from the US this is an option. I shipped by airplane Miami- Cali and it ended up about 1900 dollars...f..crazy!
OCEAN FREIGHT MIAMI-CARTAGENA..........................$416.00
EXPORT DOCUMENTS AND US CUSTOMS CLEARANCE..............$150.00
INSURANCE (OPTIONAL) $0.010 OF THE VEHICLE COST........$
Anyway, let me know if you need help, I live in my newly started hostel here in Colombia now and can check out different stuff for you if you want!

I had heard of ship/Ferries doing this route in the past but had heard they were now all shut down.
So maybe this is a new deal? Thanks for digging this up. Could really make my trip possible!

Shipping out of Miami at a good price just might get me to change plans a bit. Was planning on flying bike to Chile, ride for a couple of months then store till the next winter (summer there) and go the other way. Air freight costs are going throught the roof, got a quote yesterday that was over $7000. Keep us posted on shipping out of Miami and I might just ride down there (from Washington), ship to Columbia and start my travels from there.

Shipping Quote
Just got a quote for ship transport, Vancouver to San Antonio, Chile, see below. It looks like air freight has just gotten too high and we will need to learn how to make ocean freight work.
We are pleased to quote you our charges to ship your motorcycle to Chile.
Herebelow is our offer based on your supplied dims/weight of the crated
motorcycle. Please note that the crate used for the motorcycle must be from
proper heat treated wood with the official stamp on the wood or otherwise a
metal one can be used.
Handling fee USD35.00
Export clearance USD15.00
Ocean freight Vancouver to San Antonio port only USD687.14
Please note the following:
1. The above quote is based on today's tariffs and fuel surcharge levels
which needs to be reconfirmed upon booking or shipping.
2. The above quote is subject to booking space availability.
3. The above quote does include local pick up of the crated motorcycle.
4. The above quote is based on prepaid charges only.
5. The above quote does not include transit insurance coverage. This can be
arranged with us for an additional premium.
6. The above quote does not include destination terminal fees, customs
clearance and delivery of the motorcycle to final destination in Chile.
We hope the above quote is satisfactory. Please do not hesitate to contact
is if you have any questions.
We want to thank you for contacting Baseline Forwarding for your shipping
needs.

Good Deal!
Chile but if they have the typical
corruption issues then costs could be substantial at that end.

I would try to have the company hook you up with an Agent at the
port in Chili and confirm destination/port charges .... This to avoid
unpleasant "surprises".
I don't know how imports work in Chile but if they have the typical
corruption issues then costs could be substantial at that end.
Cheers!
