Shipping Ushuaia to BA or to UK?
Hi all,
First thread on the HUBB!!
Planning a jaunt down the Pan-Am next year, ending up in Ushuaia. Just looking into transport for bikes back home to UK. Spoke to Mark at James Cargo who says that they can only arrange shipping from BA. Can anyone advise on shipping from Ushuaia to BA or direct Ushuaia to UK.
Really appreciate any info. Cheers, Matt

I'm also interested in this - particularly prices.
Right now, it's so cheap over there, I'm thinking of buying a bike out there, riding the TransAm trail, and then down to Tierra del Fuego and bringing the bike back.
Ofcourse, that's dependent upon shipping fees, and how much VAT/import duty I'm likely to be hit with when I return (how do C&I work out VAT/import duty for second hand vehicles? surely not what I paid for it - it will by then have 20,000 miles more on it!)

I just found the shipping database, and looked at another thread which mentioned the import duties (6% duty, plus VAT @ 17.5% payable on value of bike + shipping cost + duty paid).
Shipping cost from BA to UK was shown as $1275 in the shipping database.
like, ouch.
You'd have to REALLY be in love with a bike for that to be worthwhile!
If we take a bike worth 2000 GBP, that's...
6% import duty on 2000 GBP = 120 GBP
650 GBP shipping
VAT on...
Bike = 350
shipping = 113.75
import duty = 21.00
TOTAL VAT = 484.76
So... total to import that bike is...
120 + 650 + 484.76 = 1254.76
Is it really worth more than half the value of the vehicle?
Surely it makes more sense to buy abroad and sell before you return? does it become more worthwhile the more expensive the bike is?
