Travelling across Iran on export plates
Does anybody know what the current situation is regarding travelling across Iran and Turkey on export plates? I am going from the UAE to the UK and don't want to have to get a carnet, bank guarantee and all that bollocks.
Thanks,
Adam

Motorcycle Registration while exporting and travelling?
Same question as Adam asked.. Shame nobody replied with an answer. Is there a general rule for motorcycle registration when travelling in between countries as expats? For example, we currently live in UAE, but plan to leave the country in June, and travel for half a year or so. Not sure how motorcycle registration would work during the time when we are not really residents of any country!
Even if you don't have any accurate information, just throw in some thoughts would be helpful.
Cheers,
Shu

Export plates or no, you normally need a carnet to enter Iran. Some people have succeeded without one... I suggest you contact user stephano, who is/was also in UAE for a long time and plans the same thing as you.

I can at least confirm that you don't need a carnet to cross Turkey.

I'm afraid this a real grey-area. You can normally enter Iran without a carnet, though I've only heard of people doing it coming from Turkey or Armenia. What the deal is for export plates, I don't know.
I would suggest you speak to the embassy in the UAE, and also contact ITTO in Iran - the Iranian Touring and Transport Association. That said, Iranian borders are usually flexible (read bribeable), so you could try that.
There are hundreds of Afghan / Pakstani traders who import used cars to Afghanistan / Pakistan, though they are put on trucks through Iran. Maybe they can help you if you can track them down.
Can't you get a Saudi transit visa??

..
I passed Iran and Pakistan 3 months before and they checked carnet. But for me it was easy because of i am a Turkish man (they love Turks) we chatted a lot and they didnt check engine/chassis no. And for both Turkey and Iran you dont need anything about license plate. You can use yours. But if you stay more than 1 month-i think- than you need a plate.
In this countries eveything depends on your relations with ppl. Be openminded, hug and smile every civil/police you deal and everything is ok than..:
