That's a remarkable video. OK, so the cars weren't strapped down in any way, you'd certainly think you put on the parking brakes! Many of the cars are just rolling around, it certainly looks like a disaster waiting to happen. Not to mention that I wouldn't think it would be very safe for the ship to have tons of wheeled objects rolling to and fro with the waves...

Disaster

Wow ,, insane.
Those are are probably bought FOB (Free On Board) meaning, insurance to the consignee.
Owners will claim negligence, due to non lashing and securing and parking, in neutral, as any normal deck cargo should be. Ship owner will claim force majeure.
Inshallah,, good luck.
Hard to get reimursed on these cars.

In case people are worried this is not the car ferry to Vladivostok most of us would use. Looking at the ship I guess it is a general cargo ship bringing second hand card info Russia from Japan (none of the cars appear to have plates on them). Also the cars appear to have been strapped to the deck initially- if you look carefully you can see the broken straps on the deck. It must have been some storm conditions the ship passed through before this video was taken. Loss of deck cargo from ships is not as unusual as people might think - if you Google the loud of containers at sea you will come across some frightening statistics.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
