Stickers everywhere
In addition to the items for sale at the store on CafePress.com, it could be good idea to have stickers too. I suggest 2 sizes. A small one (1.5" / 4cm or smaller) could go on helmets and other gear. A large one (3" / 8cm or larger) could go on panniers or - why not? - car bumpers.
The reason why CafePress doesn't do stickers, I believe, is because it wouldn't bring in much profits to them except if produced in large quantities. If stickers were independently produced and distributed by Horizons Unlimited, they could be a way for members of the community to show their support, like the Gold Member store. People could easily buy them by packs of 20: they would make nice gifts along the way.
Another interesting sticker would be a large (6"x8") world map to cover the panniers.

The sticker idea is great!!!! Like it a lot. Simple and very effective.
Whey not make a 'patch' that one can place on his vest?

I like both ideas, we will be doing stickers, and maybe patches. It's another level of difficulty to sell them, with the biggest problem being paying for a "cheap" item without paying to much in charges. We ARE working on it!
A world map can be done for a reasonable price at any place that produces stickers and custom lettering for trucks etc. Ours is just a big sticker, 11 high x 21" wide.
thanks for the input guys!

Hi Grant
I too like the idea of stickers - but why charge? Ooooo - wait a minute it's not as crazy as it sounds. Why not get a load of very simple 1 colour stickers mass produced (say 2000) and include 3-4 with every order or correspondence. Then add the extra amount they cost to make to the p&p or carriage charge for that order?
That way you can market the site really effectively and not get too tied up in trying to sell the stickers at a decent price?
A friend of mind was marketing his radio programme in this way - and it worked brilliantly. EVERYONE loves a free sticker!

We're not actually doing the production and shipping for the stuff we sell on CafePress, so we don't have anything to do with the actual orders. They ship them out directly when you buy something from the store.
At some point, if the volume of sales warrants it, we might decide to stock products ourselves and do our own shipping. That would also allow us to stock other items, such as travel gear.
At that point, we might consider putting stickers or other small items in with the shipment and just treating them as promotion.

I personally would like to see you add denim shirts and (maybe later) leather sleeved varsity type jackets. They would be just the ticket while sitting around the campfires in the spring and fall!

Steve,
We'll have to wait for Cafepress to stock them, and they do change their inventory from time to time, and seasonally, so cross your fingers. If they become available we'll certainly do it!
Thanks

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
