No Bart (or was it Sophie?) it wasn't the phishing filter though whilst it was waiting to load the phishing filter logo indicated it was checking out the site. I disabled it as I had the same thought as you but it made no difference.
In the end I downloaded the trial version of IE 8 which is what I'm now running and so far so good Insh'Allah! It's still a lot slower to load than Firefox but now just a few seconds rather than a good few minutes. It would seem that somewhere along the line some part of IE vital only for VBulltetin had got corrupted but I doubt anyone could get to the bottom of it. Weird that my wife's computer had the same prob though. I must check it to see if it's working normally.
