Greetings
Hey all,
Just wanted to shortly introduce myself before posting my first question to the HUBB.
My name is Thomas, I'm from Germany and just recently discovered adventure traveling on a motorbike as a passion. I started out as New Years Eve crazy talk while traveling with a friend in Australia and ended in us making our license in late 2010 and shipping our brand new bikes to South America in March 2011, where we traveled for half a year. Until then I pretty much had zero riding experience on- or offroad, now I have about 30.000 kilometers on the clock.
It was a fantastic experience and meeting fellow riders on the road, some of them traveling for years in a row, has been quite an inspiration. I got back to Germany only about four months ago but can't get the RTW out of my head.
I'm currently riding a F800GS which seemd like a good compromise at the time and it never gave us any major trouble. We did experience some of the known flaws (soft rims, chain, ball bearings) but other then that the bike held up great, running without problems under any condition (altitudes, different types of gas, temperatures).
We kept a blog of our travels but never finished it to be honest, it's stuck somewhere in Bolivia... Pictures are pretty much up to date though all the way up to Ecuador. If you care to check them out please see: O Brother, Where Art Thou?
Looking forward to be part of the community, all the best and safe travels!
Cheers,
Thomas
