Hey Everybody!
Just got my first bike this year! I had gone downhill mountainbiking in Colombia while on vacation this spring and decided to join the ranks of mountainbikers here in British Columbia. After watching a few youtube videos in my office about mountainbiking, I watched a suggested video on motorcycling and bought a bike within 2 days. I chose a ninja 250 after googling "best first motorcycle" and looking through my options.
my only experience prior to this was automatic rental scooters while on vacation in vietnam, I crashed 3 times and have a nice exhaust burn scar on my leg to this day, but it was easily one of the top 5 experiences of my life.
Previous to riding this year, I have been an active 4x4 overlander. When I bought the Ninja 250, i really had no intention or thought of getting into ADV riding, but after riding for a month, memories of watching the long-way series multiple times came flooding in.
for the rest of this riding season, I'm gonna keep riding the cheap little ninja 250. I'm going to weld up a removable rear rack and go on a few multi-day camping road trips and then hopefully next year, trade up to a Suzuki DRZ400 or KLR650 as my entry into proper ADV riding.
Below is the Ninja 250 as it sits today:
And here is my 4x4 overland rig, a 3rd gen 4runner.
It is great around Canada, but because of time constraints, I'm starting to realize motorcycle overlanding is going to be the best way for me to travel abroad, rather than deal with the costs and logistics of a truck.
